🔍 Warning Signs

When Should You Consult
a Pediatric Endocrinologist?

Hormonal imbalances in children can be subtle. Knowing the early signs leads to timely diagnosis and better outcomes.

📉

Poor or Stunted Growth

Child growing significantly slower than peers, height consistently below the 3rd percentile, or sudden drop in growth rate.

🌸

Early or Late Puberty

Breast development before age 8 in girls, pubic hair before age 9 in boys, or no signs of puberty by age 13–14.

💧

Excessive Thirst & Urination

Frequent urination, bedwetting after age 6, constant thirst — possible signs of diabetes or diabetes insipidus.

⚖️

Unexplained Weight Gain or Loss

Sudden, unexplained weight changes that don't correspond to diet or activity — may indicate thyroid or metabolic issues.

🦋

Neck Swelling / Goitre

Visible or palpable swelling at the base of the neck may indicate an enlarged thyroid requiring investigation.

😴

Fatigue, Weakness & Lethargy

Chronic tiredness, muscle weakness, and poor energy levels in children can be signs of hypothyroidism or adrenal insufficiency.

🦴

Bone Pain & Frequent Fractures

Leg pain, bowed legs, rickets-like appearance, or fractures from minor injuries may point to Vitamin D deficiency or bone disorders.

😰

Excessive Sweating & Heat Intolerance

Excessive sweating, heat intolerance, rapid heartbeat, and hyperactivity in children may suggest hyperthyroidism.

🌑

Skin Darkening (Acanthosis)

Dark, velvety patches on the neck, underarms, or groin can indicate insulin resistance or early-onset diabetes risk.

💬 Chat on WhatsApp
What is a Pediatric Endocrinologist and when should I visit one?
+
A Pediatric Endocrinologist is a specialist doctor who treats hormone-related conditions in children. You should visit if your child has growth problems, unusual puberty timing, suspected diabetes, thyroid issues, obesity, or any other hormonal concern. The sooner a condition is identified, the better the outcome.
My child is shorter than classmates. Should I be concerned?
+
Not all short children have a medical problem — many are constitutionally short or have familial short stature. However, if your child's growth rate has slowed significantly, their height is below the 3rd percentile, or they're not growing at least 4–5 cm per year, a consultation with Dr. Priyanka is recommended for proper evaluation including bone age assessment.
At what age does puberty normally start in boys and girls?
+
In girls, puberty normally begins between ages 8–13 (breast development is the first sign). In boys, it typically begins between ages 9–14 (testicular enlargement is the first sign). Puberty starting before these ages is called precocious puberty; starting after is delayed puberty — both require evaluation by a specialist.
How do I know if my child has diabetes?
+
Classic signs of childhood diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent urination (including nighttime bedwetting in a child who was previously dry), unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and blurred vision. If your child shows these symptoms, seek medical evaluation immediately. A simple blood glucose test can confirm or rule out diabetes quickly.
Is tele-consultation as effective as an in-person visit?
+
Tele-consultation works very well for follow-up visits, reviewing test reports, medication adjustments, and discussing new concerns. For a first visit involving physical examination, bone age X-rays, or blood tests, an in-person visit is preferred. Dr. Priyanka will advise whether your case needs an in-person examination or can be managed via tele-consult.
What tests might Dr. Priyanka order for a growth evaluation?
+
A growth evaluation typically includes bone age X-ray (left hand X-ray to check skeletal maturity), thyroid function tests (TSH, T3, T4), IGF-1 levels (growth hormone marker), complete blood count, and sometimes a GH stimulation test if deficiency is suspected. Dr. Priyanka will guide you on exactly which tests are needed based on your child's presentation.
Does the clinic see patients from outside Bhopal?
+
Yes! We see patients from across Madhya Pradesh including Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Sagar, and other cities. Many families prefer tele-consultation for follow-ups. You can share test reports and growth charts via WhatsApp for an initial review before scheduling your visit.
How should I prepare for the first consultation?
+
Please bring your child's previous growth records (height/weight at different ages), any past blood reports or X-rays, a list of current medications, and a brief note of your main concerns. If available, the birth weight and delivery details are also helpful. Taking a photo of your child's growth chart (from their vaccination card or school health records) is useful too.
